THE OPPORTUNITY
The Red Hook Community Resilience Corps is an AmeriCorps National Service Program that seeks to make Red Hook a safer, stronger and a more resilient community for individuals ages 18+. AmeriCorps members are part of our unconventional programs and services throughout the Center that engage residents and promote public safety. Members work directly with community members to provide services and referrals to address needs centered on economic mobility, housing issues and many other areas. Furthermore, members also will perform service projects throughout the neighborhood and by the end of their service year, members will gain the skills needed to plan and execute their own project.
Underway since 2015, MAP is a comprehensive strategy to enhance public safety and strengthen community well-being in 15 public housing developments across New York City. The initiative aims to enhance safety and overall quality of life by strengthening collaboration and capacity among public housing residents. Since 2016, citywide meetings have been convened to share information and data, facilitate community engagement to identify neighborhood priorities, enhance the quality of life and spur collaboration and accountability among city agencies and local stakeholders.
The Center is seeking a MAP Community Liaison. Reporting to the Americorps Coordinator, the MAP Community Liaison will support the Red Hook Houses MAP Engagement Coordinator (MEC) in organizing a resident-driven; community organizing initiative in partnership with the Mayor’s Action Plan for Neighborhood Safety (MAP).
AVAILABILITY
The start date for this position is December 1, 2025, with an end date of September 30, 2026. Applicants must be available to commit to serve 30-hours a week, Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:00am - 5:00pm with occasional evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support residents, community partners and local city agency representatives through the process of identifying and solving issues that create vulnerabilities in community safety and well-being;
- Support the Map Engagement Coordinator with recruitment of local residents and building their capacity in policy and placemaking, organizing and advocacy, and other relevant competencies;
- Lead the planning and implementation of NeighborhoodStat at their designated site. The MAP Community Liaison is expected to:
- Foster and build upon relationships with community partners.
- Work in partnership with the Map Engagement Coordinator to coordinate city agencies to respond to community needs via all aspects of the NeighborhoodStat process.
- Attend in-person, teleconference, and virtual meetings, as well as community events including precinct council meetings, community board meetings, and Tenant Association meetings; and
- Input data from community events, meetings, and other NSTAT-related programming; and
- Additional tasks as necessary.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; and
- Interest in working with communities and/or service.
Position Type: Temporary full-time for ten months.
Position Location: Brooklyn, New York.

- Full-Time members receive a living allowance of $14,280, and an educational award of $5,176 upon successful completion of their term;

- Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to use on future educational expenses or to pay back qualified student loans. The value is dependent on length of service. Members 55+ are eligible to transfer their Education Award to a family member; and
