THE OPPORTUNITY
Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to reengineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. By providing meaningful pre-trial supervised release and post-conviction sentencing options, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to use an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life and avoid the harmful effects of incarceration.
Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is seeking a Case Manager. Reporting to the Supervising Case Manager, the Case Manager's primary focus will be working with individuals who are mandated to engage in Alternative to Incarceration (ATI), Alternative to Detention (ATD), and Early Diversion programming. The Case Manager is responsible for conducting intakes, providing comprehensive case management services including crisis intervention when needed, making and monitoring referrals to external providers, and facilitating individual and group sessions. The Case Manager will stay in regular contact with participants, send court date reminders and submit compliance notices to the court.
- Provide comprehensive, clinically-informed case management services to both English and Spanish speaking participants that address issues such as substance use, mental health, trauma, domestic violence, housing, and educational/vocational needs;
- Complete intakes and provide case management and individual counseling services (in English and Spanish) to a caseload of short- and long-term mandated participants;
- Conduct outreach to collateral sources as needed to promote compliance and court monitoring;
- Assist with data entry and ensure the accuracy of information in the electronic case management system, including entering case notes and assessments, community referrals, and programming and case outcome data
- Make appropriate referrals to community-based organizations for additional services;
- Facilitate coordinated service delivery for on-site agencies and community-based agencies;
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation, as needed;
- Manage and monitor participant compliance with service mandates;
- Establish and maintain linkages with community partners who can provide age-appropriate interventions and services to court-involved individuals;
- Provide accurate written and verbal reports to the court and other court stakeholders;
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment meetings;
- Facilitate and develop a range of on-site psychoeducational groups and conduct individual case management sessions;
- Assist ATI management with the development and implementation of new programs, initiatives, and/or interventions;
- Assist with administrative responsibilities, as needed;
- Assist with data collection and management;
- Assist with grant reporting requirements, as needed;
- Provide clinical services as described above to program participants on a voluntary basis post-mandate;
- Attend all required staff meetings and trainings;
- Attend Brooklyn Justice Initiatives’ community-based events after hours, as needed; and
- Additional relevant tasks, as needed.
Position Type: Full time, working 5 days a week on site.
Position Location: Brooklyn, New York.
Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $28.57 - $35.93 per hour, annually equivalent to $52,000 - $65,400 based on a 35-hour work week and is commensurate with experience.
